Session 1: The rise of end times fascism
Join our reading circle on the Contemporary Far-Right. Building on our work from the Political Ecology of the Far-Right Workshop in November 2024, we have decided to create an European space, where we can investigate, discuss and reflect together on the various strands of the far-right in Europe and around the World, and to find ways how we can use this knowledge in our activism, organizing or political work. Therefore, we are hosting a series of meetings, which will all be structured around an article, that we will read beforehand and then discuss and reflect on together at our meetings.
Our first meeting will take place on 18.06.2025 from 18:00 CET until 20:00 CET. We are going to kick off the reading circles with the article written by Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor – The rise of End Times Fascism. While the article is written from a US perspective, there are various important points we can reflect on. Therefore, we have prepared several guiding questions, for you to think about when reading the piece and then reflect on together:
- ❓(How) Do we see the “End Times Fascism” described by the authors manifest in Europe? Are there relevant political parties/actors, groups, influencers or individuals who follow the same or similar logic?
- ❓How do (or how can) the narratives and measures proposed by it’s proponents impact our political work? Be it climate activism, social struggles, international solidarity, or o .
- ❓ What are the things we (can) do through our activism / political work / organizing, in order “to have a hope of combating the end times fascists”? What alternatives can we offer – think of narratives, visions, solutions, actions, activities, ways of engaging or anything that you consider relevant.
